Draft Selection Strategy & Tactical Blueprints
Success in fantasy football requires long-term planning, budget optimization, and proper squad rotation. Read our master scout strategies below.
Choosing the correct starting formation determines how you distribute your squad's funds. Different team layouts yield different point profiles over a 38-gameweek season:
- 3-4-3: Focuses funds on the frontline. Recommended when premium forwards have highly favorable Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR).
- 3-5-2: Packs the midfield, maximizing clean-sheet potential from defensively active midfielders who earn recoveries and Expected Assists (xA).
- 4-4-2: The most balanced formation. Allows managers to rotate low-cost bench players in and out based on fixture difficulty variations.
- 5-3-2: Defender-heavy layout. Highly effective when top clubs have overlapping home-fixture streaks, enabling easy clean sheet stacks.
Managing player values is vital for long-term roster flexibility. Here is how your squad value updates and evolves:
- Price Fluctuations: Player prices rise and fall based on transfer trends. If a player is heavily bought by overall classic managers, their price increases by £0.1M increments, up to a maximum of £0.3M per gameweek.
- Sell Value Taxes: When selling a player who has risen in price, a 50% tax applies on the profit. For example, if you buy a defender for £5.0M and they rise to £5.6M, their selling price is £5.3M.
- Bench Rotation Policy: Never leave dead funds on your bench. Choose low-cost £4.0M keepers and £4.5M defenders who play 90 minutes to ensure you have active scoring backup options.
Understanding Squad Limits
You must recruit exactly 15 players (2 GKs, 5 DEFs, 5 MIDs, 3 FWDs). During any active gameweek, your playing starting 11 must include at least 1 goalkeeper, 3 defenders, 2 midfielders, and 1 forward to be eligible for point scoring.
